Minot Highway Dept. Report, 2009

To the Residents of the Town of Minot ,

We have had an extremely busy year with the washouts that occurred last August. The total damages we sustained were in excess of $120,000.00 with all the repairs being completed by October. We did an extensive amount of ditching, stone lining, and culvert replacing (and up sizing) on Millet Road, Bradbury Hill Road, Brighton Hill Road, Shaw Hill Road, and Death Valley Road. A portion of this work was done with the assistance of the Mitigation Funds that we received from the Federal and State government to prevent additional damages.

We still continue to have a strong working relationship with the Hebron Highway Dept. and the Mechanic Falls Highway Dept... Both of these Departments were of great help to us during the washouts in August. I hope for this to expand as we deal with the ongoing issues with the economy. A few other towns have also expressed interest in working with our dept...

My Highway budget, as proposed, again has some increases. Most of this is connected to rising costs in oil and is reflected in the price for diesel, propane (heat at the garage), and electricity. We have to plug in heaters on a sand truck, the grader, and   2 buses because there is no available space in the garage. We have increased repair costs as the equipment is getting older and most of it is no longer under warranty.

I have been very fortunate to have a staff of very dedicated people that have helped to build a Highway Dept. that is the envy of many. A lot of the credit has to go to you, the taxpayers of Minot , for without your support through the years, this couldn't have happened.

This October will mark the 10 th year that I have been here at the Town of Minot and I want to thank all of you for your support over the past years. Some changes have taken place recently and I have been select as the new Town Administrator to replace Rhonda Irish . Scott Parker has assumed the day to day operations at the Highway Dept. and will gladly answer your questions.
